Dear Hornet Families,
At Hernando Elementary, our Hornet Expectations guide the way we treat one another and make choices throughout the school day. But did you know that our expectations don't stop at the school doors?
For many of our students, the school day begins and ends on a school bus. This makes the bus an important part of our school community, a place where respect, responsibility, kindness, and safety matter every single day. Students are expected to follow the Hornet Pledge while riding the bus by Having Respect, Being Responsible, Remembering Kindness, and Obeying Safety Rules.
This means using appropriate voices and language, following the bus driver's directions, keeping hands and belongings to ourselves, remaining seated, being respectful to other students, and helping make the bus a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Our bus drivers have an incredibly important job: getting our students to and from school safely. When students follow expectations, they help our drivers stay focused on the road and help ensure that everyone arrives safely.
Families, we would love for you to talk with your child about what it means to show the Hornet Expectations on the bus. Ask them: “What does being a respectful, responsible, kind, and safe Hornet look like on the bus?” A quick conversation at home can make a big difference.
Let's work together to make sure that Hornet Pride doesn't just start when students arrive at HES—it starts the moment they step onto the bus!
With Hornet Pride,
Jerrica Alligood
