Hornet Buzz

Week of December 1st, 2025

From the Desk of Mrs. Alligood

Dear Hornet Families,
As we enter December, our students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taking their next state progress monitoring assessment. Students in kindergarten through second grade will take Star Early Literacy or Reading and Star Math. Students in third through fifth grade will be taking FAST ELA/Reading and FAST Math. These assessments are administered three times per year to track your student's progress in the BEST standards. These tests are adaptive which means the questions may get easier or more difficult depending on how a student responds and students will see different questions.

Please remember students are not permitted to have access to any electronic devices during the test or during breaks. While students may not share information about secure test content, students can discuss their testing experience with their families. Students must work independently. It's important that students get a good night's sleep the night before and eat breakfast the morning of the test. Please do not check your child out early or bring them in late on these days.

For FAST, students who are actively working still at the end of the allotted time will be provided with extra time. However, students who have not been actively working such as sleeping at the end of the regular time may not continue testing.

Testing Dates
Kindergarten- December 1 and December 3
First grade- December 1 and December 3
Second grade- December 2 and December 4
Third grade- December 2 and December 4
Fourth grade- December 2 and December 4
Fifth grade- December 1 and December 3

If you have any questions about the assessment, please contact us. You can also visit https://flfast.org/fsa.html.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Alligood

November NEST Meeting

Our character trait for November was caring. For our November NEST meeting, students showed they cared by writing letters of gratitude to our Veterans. These letters, pictures, and coloring pages will be delivered for veterans in our community as part of the Veterans Valentines program.

One of the best parts of our NEST meetings is watching our older students help support our younger students. Here, Matthew, fifth grader, helps Landon, Kindergartener, by helping to hold his clipboard while he writes.
