Hornet Buzz

Week of November 3, 2025

From the Desk of Mrs. Alligood

Dear Hornet Families,
At our school, we believe that a strong vocabulary is the foundation for success in reading, writing, and communication. The more words students understand and use, the more confident they become in expressing their thoughts, understanding new ideas, and connecting with the world around them.

To help build this foundation, we are excited to launch our Word of the Week! Each week, our students will learn a new Tier 2 vocabulary word—words that are powerful, useful across subjects, and can be understood by students from Pre-K through 5th grade. These are the kinds of words students might see in books, hear in conversations, and use to make their own writing richer and more precise.

Our Word of the Week will be introduced on the morning show, used in classrooms throughout the week, and celebrated as students find ways to use it in their conversations and writing. Families can join the fun at home by talking about the word, using it in sentences, or spotting it in stories you read together.

We can’t wait to see our students’ vocabularies—and their confidence—grow each week as they become true word experts! Thank you for your continued support in helping our students develop a lifelong love for learning and language.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Alligood
Principal

Red Ribbon Week was a huge success!

A group of children and an adult smile at the camera during lunchtime.
During "Swap" day, where students dressed as teachers and teachers dressed as students, many of our staff got into character. Here, Ms. Turner, sat down and even had lunch just like a student. Hoodies off in the building, Ms. Turner!
Three people stand outside a school building, posing for a photo.
Do you recognize these iconic book characters? Thankfully, Matilda has Ms. Honey as a teacher and not Ms. Trunchbull!
